The hoverfly season has come to an end earlier than normal due to the good summer and sharp change in night temperatures over the last couple of weeks. My last official sortie was to Maesteg cemetery today where I managed just 7 species with Eristalis tenax (14) the most numerous of the otherwise all common species. All flowers have gone over except for some Ivy at my street, so even though I might get some records on later sunny days, the numbers are done for the year.
Ivy Bees seem to be having a good year and there are still a lot of Red Admiral and Small Copper butterflies about.
