Brynmawr Mast

Spent most of the day cutting the grass in the garden, with 22 Swifts screaming over my head at roof height, a day later back than last year. 10 years ago they returned on 4th May but now they are getting later and later.

Anyway managed to get out for an hour after and had a short walk around the mast area, birding highlights were 2 Whitethroat, 1 Grasshopper Warbler reeling, 2prs Swallow back at barns, 4prs Linnet back in the fields and also 5 Blackcap, 2 Willow Warbler.

Not many insects about just the usual crop of Bees, Butterflies, Day Moths and Tiger Beetles. Only 6 species of hoverfly was quite a change from yesterday. New blooms included Crab Apple, Loosewort and Birdsfoot Trefoil. The walk back through the woods was very picturesque though.
