Another bright sunny day , but a little cooler than yesterday at 15c. Wasn't expecting too much on the hoverfly front, and was surprised to get 24 species, the best of which are below.
First odonata of the year in Large Red Damselfly. Good numbers of Green-veined White [35+] and also Orange Tip, Red Admiral and Speckled Wood. The usual bees and day moths. One pond had up to 50 Palmate Newts in it. Green Tiger Beetles were out in force. 6 Whitethroat, 2 Tree Pipit, 1 Cuckoo, 1 Sedge Warbler were the best of the birds. While new blooms included Mouse-ear Hawkweed, Red Clover and Heath Milkwort.
