Lletty Brongu

The heavy rain over the last week has taken its toll on the Hemlock Water Droplet patch in the woods, with 50% of the plants damaged or destroyed. Nevertheless I had 22 species of hoverfly with Dasysyrphus albostriatus and Riponnensia splendens being my first of the year. Only other insect of note was a longhorn beetle Rhagium mordax although my shot is a little out of focus. Good numbers of P. conwagana [ Tortrix moth] out today.

 longhorn beetle Rhagium mordax
 Myathropa florea
 Platycheirus granditarsus
Riponnensia splendens

Riponnensia splendens face shot showing extensive grey on the face, which separates it from the closely associated Orthonevra family.
